2017-12-07KRT: Minor fix of last commitOndrej Zajicek (work)
2017-12-07Nest: Maintain separate IPv4, IPv6 and LLv6 preferred addressesOndrej Zajicek (work)
Also redesign preferred address selection and update protocols to use appropriate preferred address. Based on a previous work by Jan Maria Matejka.
2016-05-10Build system reworked to one global Makefile with includes and no nestingJan Moskyto Matejka
Also removed the lib-dir merging with sysdep. Updated #include's accordingly. Fixed make doc on recent Debian together with moving generated doc into objdir. Moved Makefile.in into root dir Retired all.o and birdlib.a Linking the final binaries directly from all the .o files.
2016-02-01Channels - explicit links between protocols and tablesOndrej Zajicek (work)
The patch adds support for channels, structures connecting protocols and tables and handling most interactions between them. The documentation is missing yet.
2015-12-21Follow-up work on integrationOndrej Zajicek (work)
Contains some patches from Jan Moskyto Matejka
2015-12-20KRT: Integration of IPv4/IPv6 in sysdep/linuxOndrej Zajicek (work)
2015-11-23Nest: Fix bug in device protoOndrej Zajicek (work)
If an interface address notification is received during device protocol shutdown/restart, BIRD crashed. Thanks to Wei Huang for the bugreport.
2015-11-11Netlink: Allow more than 256 routing tables.Jan Moskyto Matejka
Since 2.6.19, the netlink API defines RTA_TABLE routing attribute to allow 32-bit routing table IDs. Using this attribute to index routing tables at Linux, instead of 8-bit rtm_table field.
2015-06-08BGP multipath supportOndrej Zajicek
Kernel option 'merge paths' allows to merge routes exported to kernel protocol (currently BGP and static routes) to multipath routes.
2015-05-12KRT: Add support for plenty of kernel route metricsOndrej Zajicek
Linux kernel route metrics (RTA_METRICS netlink route attribute) are represented and accessible as new route attributes: krt_mtu, krt_window, krt_rtt, krt_rttvar, krt_sstresh, krt_cwnd, krt_advmss, krt_reordering, krt_hoplimit, krt_initcwnd, krt_rto_min, krt_initrwnd, krt_quickack, krt_lock_mtu, krt_lock_window, krt_lock_rtt, krt_lock_rttvar, krt_lock_sstresh, krt_lock_cwnd, krt_lock_advmss, krt_lock_reordering, krt_lock_hoplimit, krt_lock_rto_min, krt_feature_ecn, krt_feature_allfrag
2015-04-25KRT: Fixes route reloadOndrej Zajicek
Did not really worked
2014-03-20BGP graceful restart support.Ondrej Zajicek
Also significant core protocol state changes needed for that, global graceful restart recovery state and kernel proto support for recovery.

2011-11-07Implements protocol templates.Ondrej Zajicek
Based on the patch from Alexander V. Chernikov. Extended to support almost all protocols. Uses 'protocol bgp NAME from TEMPLATE { ... }' syntax.
2011-10-06Signal problems with route installation to kernel tables.Ondrej Zajicek
2011-04-13Adds support for several Linux kernel route attributes.Ondrej Zajicek
2010-04-04Restrict export of device routes to the kernel protocol.Ondrej Zajicek
In usual configuration, such export is already restricted with the aid of the direct protocol but there are some races that can circumvent it. This makes it harder to break kernel device routes. Also adds an option to disable this restriction.
2010-02-26Many changes in (mainly) kernel syncers.Ondrej Zajicek
- BSD kernel syncer is now self-conscious and can learn alien routes - important bugfix in BSD kernel syncer (crash after protocol restart) - many minor changes and bugfixes in kernel syncers and neighbor cache - direct protocol does not generate host and link local routes - min_scope check is removed, all routes have SCOPE_UNIVERSE by default - also fixes some remaining compiler warnings
2009-05-29Add 'primary' configuration option.Ondrej Zajicek
2000-03-12Cleaned up debugging in kernel syncer. Netlink has still LOCAL_DEBUGMartin Mares
turned on, but after some testing I'll gag it.
2000-01-18Kernel route syncer now supports dynamic reconfiguration. Also it doesn'tMartin Mares
depend on the startup counter hack now and uses a zero-time timer instead to make itself scheduled after normal protocol startup.
1999-08-03Kernel route syncer supports multiple tables.Martin Mares
The changes are just too extensive for lazy me to list them there, but see the comment at the top of sysdep/unix/krt.c. The code got a bit more ifdeffy than I'd like, though. Also fixed a bunch of FIXME's and added a couple of others. :)
1999-05-21Removed one unused structure field.Martin Mares
1999-04-03More changes to the kernel syncer.Martin Mares
o Now compatible with filtering. o Learning of kernel routes supported only on CONFIG_SELF_CONSCIOUS systems (on the others it's impossible to get it semantically correct). o Learning now stores all of its routes in a separate fib and selects the ones the kernel really uses for forwarding packets. o Better treatment of CONFIG_AUTO_ROUTES ports. o Lots of internal changes.
1999-03-26Moved to a much more systematic way of configuring kernel protocols.Martin Mares
o Nothing is configured automatically. You _need_ to specify the kernel syncer in config file in order to get it started. o Syncing has been split to route syncer (protocol "Kernel") and interface syncer (protocol "Device"), device routes are generated by protocol "Direct" (now can exist in multiple instances, so that it will be possible to feed different device routes to different routing tables once multiple tables get supported). See doc/bird.conf.example for a living example of these shiny features.
1999-03-04KRT: Implemented asynchronous route / interface state notificationsMartin Mares
(via Netlink). Tweaked kernel synchronization rules a bit. Discovered locking bug in kernel Netlink :-) Future plans: Hunt all the bugs and solve all the FIXME's.
1999-03-03Rewrote the kernel syncer. The old layering was horrible.Martin Mares
The new kernel syncer is cleanly split between generic UNIX module and OS dependent submodules: - krt.c (the generic part) - krt-iface (low-level functions for interface handling) - krt-scan (low-level functions for routing table scanning) - krt-set (low-level functions for setting of kernel routes) krt-set and krt-iface are common for all BSD-like Unices, krt-scan is heavily system dependent (most Unices require /dev/kmem parsing, Linux uses /proc), Netlink substitues all three modules. We expect each UNIX port supports kernel routing table scanning, kernel interface table scanning, kernel route manipulation and possibly also asynchronous event notifications (new route, interface state change; not implemented yet) and build the KRT protocol on the top of these primitive operations.
1999-03-01Use traditional Unix route/iface interface only when CONFIG_NETLINKMartin Mares
is not defined. Also moved declarations of Unix iface logic to krt.h.
1999-02-13When shutting down, remove all routes (except for RTS_INHERIT and RTS_DEVICEMartin Mares
routes) from kernel routing tables unless the "persist" switch is set.
1999-02-05Synced kernel interface to new interface.Martin Mares
1998-12-08Hopefully finished kernel syncer (krt) rewrite:Martin Mares
o Interface syncing is now a part of krt and it can have configurable parameters. Actually, the only one is scan rate now :) o Kernel routing table syncing is now synchronized with interface syncing (we need the most recent version of the interface list to prevent lots of routes to non-existent destinations from appearing). Instead of its own timer, we just check if it's route scan time after each iface list scan. o Syncing of device routes implemented. o CONFIG_AUTO_ROUTES should control syncing of automatic device routes. o Rewrote krt_remove_route() to really remove routes :) o Better diagnostics. o Fixed a couple of bugs.
1998-12-08Rewritten kernel syncer. Now uses the rta trickery I've introduced yesterdayMartin Mares
and does things "the right way". Few things are still missing (device routes etc.), I'll add them later in the evening.
1998-12-07KRF_* flags moved to krt.h as they are internal to kernel syncer,Martin Mares
fib->pad0,pad1 renamed to x0,x1 and in case of struct net x0 is reserved for kernel syncing as well.
1998-12-06Kernel syncer is now configurable. It will probably need some moreMartin Mares
options, but at least basic tuning is possible now.
1998-10-18Since almost every UNIX system requires different techniques for readingMartin Mares
the kernel routing table as opposed to modifying it which is approximately the same on non-netlink systems, I've split the kernel routing table routines to read and write parts. To be implemented later ;-)
